Dog Leash

There are many factors to consider when buying a dog leash. The right length and width of the leash is determined by the height of the handler and the size and weight of the dog.
A tall handler with a small dog should use a leash that is long enough for comfort and also to allow control of the animal. A shorter person needs a shorter leash especially if the dog is big. For heavier dogs, a wider and stronger leash is needed. The materials that are used to make the leashes are very important. The main feature is that the leash needs to be strong.
Types of leashes based on the materials used to make them include:
Leather
This is the most preferred type. They come in different varieties from fancy ones, plain, braided and flat. They are mostly used by professionals because of the superior material. They are easier to grip and will hardly slip from the hand even when wet. When you buy a new leash, it might feel a little stiff but with time, it becomes soft. This type of leash can last for a very long time if proper care is taken on it.
There are some dogs that chew leather leashes but they are the do not cut as fast as other types. It is advisable to keep the lashes far from the dogs because they get tempted to chew them. The leather leashes come in either black or brown color but you can find some few other rare colors. Some are also made in fancy styles and comes with a tag where they can put their address in case the dog lets loose and gets lost.
Cotton
Cotton leashes are used more because of their durability and effectiveness. They are comfortable to the hand and are easily available. They are cheaper to buy and replace because the dogs like chewing them.
Nylon
Nylon leashes are very strong but they can be rough to the hand especially if the dog pulls. They can give the hand blisters if one constantly pulls it. They are commonly used for smaller dogs and those that are well trained. When the leash gets wet, it can easily slide between finders and so it is not recommended to use in the wet season.
Chain
When buying a chin leash, one should buy one that is not very heavy because it is uncomfortable both to the handler and the dog. It is not a recommended type though some people prefer them because of their strength.
